CASCO TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Tom Renner said it best.
The retired Hope College publicist, who now is a free lance reporter/photographer in his hometown of South Haven, opened a Saturday afternoon press announcement for the South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) with this line: “Calls for service to SHAES come in many forms. Saturday’s was a bit unusual.”
A caller to SHAES noticed what Renner called “an obviously concerned adult deer” in the roadway near a manhole off of Pacific Avenue north of South Haven. The manhole cover was missing, and first responder Shawn Smith was able to go into the manhole, pull a fawn that had been trapped inside, and place the shaken but apparently unhurt young animal back into the nearby woods.
