HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Storms damaged trees and power lines in and around Ottawa County Wednesday, June 10, 2020, according to Ottawa County Emergency Manager Nick Bonstell.
The severe weather activated the City of Holland’s storm warning sirens 11:44 a.m. as wind speeds reached over 70 mph, Bonstell said in an email to media.
The storm caused heavy tree damage and minor flooding, taking down some power lines and trees in the cities of Holland, Hudsonville, Zeeland, as well as Holland Township, and several other communities.
Emergency responders included firefighters, police, county road crews and dispatchers.
Anyone needing non-emergency help or those who can report damage should call 211, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Hazardous weather — storms and high winds — are expected until at least 6 p.m. today.
Residents should monitor radio stations like WHTC and 927 The Van, as well as Ottawa County Emergency Management’s Facebook page, and other public safety resources.
