HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash between a truck and a garbage truck that left one of the drivers with a head injury.
The crash happened between a 2016 Ford Super duty truck and a a 2019 Peterbilt truck.
A 39-year-old Jenison man was driving the Ford east on Chicago Drive just after 6:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2020. He later told police the sun was in his eyes and he was reaching for his coffee cup. When he looked ahead again, it was too late to avoid colliding with a Peterbilt garbage truck, which had stopped at the light at Cottonwood Drive.
The Ford driver went by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of a head injury, which police said was non-life-threatening. He and the 56-year-old Grandville man driving the Peterbilt were each wearing seat belts, police said. The Grandville man was not hurt.
Georgetown Township firefighters and Life Ambulance EMTs assisted at the scene.
