HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The community turned out for a ribbon cutting for the new splashpad in South Haven Thursday morning, July 9, 2020.
The attraction, located near the South Beach, resembles the tall ship, the Friend’s Good Will, a replica of an 1800s sailing schooner that’s featured at the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven.
Area elementary school students voted on the splashpad’s theme.
Splashpads are promoted as a safe alternative for young children on days when Lake Michigan isn’t inviting because of the wave conditions. COVID-19 prevention methods include limiting access to 100 people at a time and social distancing reminders.
Funding for the installation came from South Haven Community Foundation and Rotary Club of South Haven, and a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund.
