HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 75-year-old man drowned just after noon on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, when his kayak flipped over on Monterey Lake, in Salem Township.
Allegan County Sheriff’s Lt. Brett Ensfield said emergency responders tried to resuscitate him, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s unclear what caused the kayak to flip. The man was not wearing a life jacket, Ensfield said, in an email to media.
The man’s name is being withheld until the Sheriff’s marine patrol officers complete their investigation.
Deputies on the scene were assisted by Michigan State Police; Michigan DNR officers, Wayland EMS, Salem firefighters, and Sandy Pines security officials.
