ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Increased enforcement on area roads and area waterways, for drunken and impaired operations, are on tap for this Independence Day holiday weekend.
While the Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration deals with vehicular motorists, Operation Dry Water from the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators addresses impaired boaters. Area law enforcement entities such as the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department are cooperating on both of their efforts.
“I’m a boater myself, and we all want to enjoy the waterways,” Sheriff Frank Baker said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during his monthly appearance on Thursday. “We all want to have fun, we all want to have a good time, but we also want to make sure we do it safely, not only for ourselves, but for our fellow motorists and boaters. Alcohol can be a big part of boating, and there are certain things that are allowed, and certain things that are not.”
Both enforcement initiatives run from Friday through Sunday.
