HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan County’s Health Department (ACHD) received 2019 National ‘Project Public Health Ready’ (PPHR) re-recognition. PPHR is a criteria-based recognition program created by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The ACHD achieved recognition in 2014 for a five-year period.
“Public health preparedness planning, response, and recovery begins at the local level. Local health departments play an essential role in creating healthy, resilient communities that can respond to and recover from disasters.” said Lori Tremmel Freeman, Chief Executive Officer. “NACCHO commends the Allegan County Health Department for being a model of public health emergency preparedness.”
ACHD Emergency Preparedness Division demonstrated preparedness and response capability and capacity meeting federal requirements and national best practices. The re-recognition criteria also highlights continuous quality improvement. This achievement demonstrates the County’s continued and ongoing commitment to the highest level of preparedness.
“We are honored to receive this emergency preparedness recognition that requires the full collaboration of many agencies including public health and public safety,” Angelique Joynes, Health Officer of ACHD states. “An important factor in a successful response to an emergency remains the actions of our residents in their own advance planning, cooperating with authorities, and helping each other in a time of disaster.”
