HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Two people were killed and two seriously injured, after a crash Ottawa County Sheriff’s authorities are blaming on the weather.
Sheriff’s Sgt. J. Douglas said the crash happened just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, on Douglas Avenue, near Adams Street, in Holland Township.
Investigators founder at 33-year-old Holland woman has been driving east on Douglas when she lost control of her 2002 BMW SUV. The SUV crossed the center line, going into the path of a 2020 Nissan Rogue, that had been westbound on Douglas.
The 44-year-old woman driving the Nissan was unable to avoid the crash, hitting the BMW in the passenger door.
A 1998 Jeep Cherokee with a 31-year-old Holland woman at the wheel, hit the Nissan Rouge.
The BMW driver, rushed by ambulance to Holland Hospital by AMR Ambulance, died. Her front-seat passenger, a 16-year-old Holland girl, went to Holland Hospital by ambulance and then to Spectrum Health Butterworth by West Michigan Air Care, died from her injuries.
The Nissan Rogue driver, and her passenger, an 18-year-old Holland man, were also taken to Spectrum Health, where they are each listed in critical condition.
The Jeep’s driver also went by ambulance to Holland Hospital.
Police closed the intersection of Douglas Avenue at Adams Street was closed for three hours during the crash investigation and cleanup.
The crash remains under investigation. Sgt. Douglas said the names of the two killed will likely be released on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020.
