HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Weather continued hampering Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies’ search efforts through the weekend for the body of 16-year-old Eliza Trainer, swept off the pier on New Year’s Day.
But police continued looking for a missing Coopersville man. who disappeared after leaving a Polkton Township party on the same day.
The search for Trainer’s body was repeatedly suspended for safety reasons, given the weather and the lake’s waves, Bennett said. Deputies were able to get onto the lake by boat and used sonar until conditions became unsafe again.
The search for Coopersville resident Hunter Klompstra along the Grand River in Polkton Twp., involved dive team members, as well as deputies using boats on the rive and K-9s on land.
Detectives continue interviewing people at the New Year’s party he’d been at before leaving for home on foot, Bennett said.
