HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland residents James and Barbara Chance are scheduled to be in a Kent County Court Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, facing charges of helping their son, Jared Chance, cover up the murder of Oshtemo resident Ashley Young.
James and Barbara Chance each have hearings set for 8:30 a.m. before Kent County Circuit Judge Paul J. Denenfeld. They’ve each been charged with perjury, for allegedly lying to police, and for each being an accessory after the fact to the mutilation of a body.
Jared Chance was sentenced on Oct. 10, 2019, to 100 to 200 years in prison for second-degree murder, and for lesser terms for convictions of concealing a death and mutilating a body, as well as three counts of tampering with evidence.
This comes after parts of Young’s body as well as other gruesome evidence were found in Chance’s Grand Rapids home on Franklin Street in November of 2018. A saw with Young’s DNA on it was also found at Chance’s parents’ home in Holland.
Jared Chance is currently being held in a state prison in Saginaw County.
His father, James Chance, retired from his job as a police officer in Illinois before the family moved to Holland more than 10 years ago.
