HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, invited high school students living in Michigan’s Sixth Congressional District to take part in the 2020 Congressional Art Competition (CAC). The winner will have their art piece hang in the U.S. Capitol for an entire year along with the winners of the award from districts across the United States. The winner and a guest will also be invited to attend a reception in Washington, D.C.
“Every year, the Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity for Southwest Michigan artists to showcase their creativity. We have received countless submissions over the years and, while only one art piece can be the winner, seeing the artistic genius of our high school students reminds me how talented southwest Michigan is,” Upton said. “We welcome anyone with a knack for art and creativity to submit their art piece. We look forward to reviewing all of the submissions and crowning this year’s Congressional Art Competition winner.”
Upton’s office is once again partnering with the Kalamazoo Institute of Art on the competition. Entries will be accepted through March 8. The CAC competition in the Sixth District is being held in conjunction with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts High School Area Show, an annual juried art exhibition with slightly different requirements. Last year, Makala Carr from Centreville High School won the Sixth District CAC with her piece called, “Opinion Orange.”
