HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The issue of human trafficking will be spotlighted this evening.
Beginning at 7 PM at the Teddy’s Transport complex off of Interchange Drive, near the M-40/I-696 junction on Holland’s South Side, the “Fight Human Trafficking – Get Informed and Empowered” event is aimed at increasing awareness of the crime that the United Nations says affects every nation in the world, forcefully exploiting women, children and men in labor, marriage, prostitution and organ removal.
Helen Zeerip, owner of Teddy’s Transport and leading the Grant Me Hope ministry that looks to get older children in foster care into permanent homes, was asked if the COVID 19 outbreak has made the human trafficking situation worse. “I think it has,” she said on “WHTC Morning News” during a Monday interview, “because the kids aren’t out as much, so they’re not being seen, you can’t look for the signs.”
An earlier event was held last week, and this evening’s program features Becky McDonald, founder and president of Women at Risk International. Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair in this free outdoor session.
