HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Two Kentwood men were rescued from Lake Michigan at Holland State Park, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Rotman.
Red flags were out at the beach when 911 callers reported seeing the duo age 34 and 32, respecively, struggling in the water against a rip current, just after 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020.
People on personal watercraft were able to pull one man to the north pier, where bystanders pulled him out of the water and began CPR on the 32-year-old man, who was not breathing, and did not seem to have a pulse, withnesses later told police.
As the Holland/Park Township E-unit paramedic/deputy arrived on scene, the man had been revived, but was still having breathing trouble.
He was rushed to Holland Hospital by AMR in serious condition, though he was able to answer quesitons before being transported.
The 34-year-old man was carried to shore by some someone on a peronal watercraft. After the E-unit deputies and the AMR paramedics evalulated him, he declined the office to go by ambulance to the hospital and was released at the scene.
