UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – Three of the four cities in the Holland/Zeeland area have their leadership panels meeting on Monday evening – two of them are regularly scheduled, and one is a special session.
The special session is at 6 PM in Saugatuck City Hall for the Saugatuck City Council to appoint a new City Clerk. Monica Nagel departed in June after 13 years at the post, and through a posting on the Michigan Municipal League website, nine applied for the post. A three-person candidate selection group went over the hopefuls, interview three finalists, and has recommended Erin Wilkinson to the position.
Currently the Assistant Director for the South Haven Area Chamber of Commerce, she had her own photography and consulting business in Saugatuck through last year, and has past experience in event management, marketing, project management, training and consultation, skills that would translate well to the City Clerk’s duties, according to City Manager Kirk Harrier.
A GVSU graduate, Wilkinson has already attended election inspector training on her own, is a certified Notary Public, and has begun working on steps through the Michigan Election Accreditation Program to become certified to administer elections.
In Zeeland, the City Council at 7 PM will vote on adopting a Good Neighbor Pledge ahead of the National Good Neighbor Day on September 28th, consider amendments to the 2019-20 budget, and decide on various right-of-way license agreement proposals.
Finally, the Fennville City Commission, at its 7 PM meeting, will be asked, among other items, to decide on “marihuana” establishments within the city limits, including those for both medicinal and recreational purposes of weed.

The fourth city in the area, Holland, has its City Council meeting on Wednesday, when a second reading and final vote on an amendment of the Tulip City’s anti-discrimination ordinance involving housing and employment to include the LGBTQ+IA community is expected.
