UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – Buoyed by a surge in absentee ballots requested and returned, a record number of voters will participate in Tuesday’s Primary Election across Michigan.
In the Holland-Zeeland vicinity, these are the contested races and ballot proposals:
- US House Representative 6th District: Fred Upton (I) v. Elena Oelke in the Republican primary, Jon Hoadley v. Jen Richardson in the Democratic primary.

State Representative 80th District: Mary Whiteford (I) v. Nevin Cooper-Keel in the Republican primary to face Democrat Erik Almquist

State Representative 89th District: Anita Marie Brown v. Erik Nordman in the Democratic primary to face Republican Jim Lilly (I)

Allegan County Prosecutor: Myrene Koch (I) v. Mike Villar in the Republican primary with no Democratic challenger

Ottawa County Commissioner 5th District: Randy Meppelink (I) v. Angel Walker in the Republican primary with no Democratic challenger

Holland Township Board: Incumbents Doug Becker (D), Elliott Church, Norm Nykamp and Russ TeSlaa, along with challenger Gretchen Molotsky, vie for four seats

Park Township Supervisor: Jim Chiodo v. Jim Gerard, with incumbent Jerry Hunsberger not running for reelection

Park Township Board: Incumbents George Jacob and Steve Spoelhof, along with challengers Farah Berent (D), Virginia Greenlee, Jeff Hoekstra, Tom Molenhouse, Steve Redmond, Loran Serne, James Smith and Jay Tinner vie for four seats

Polls will be open from 7 AM to 8 PM, and those with absentee ballots have until 8 PM to deposit them at the clerk’s office of the municipality in which they live.
