HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Forty-five years ago today Saigon fell to North Vietnam, signaling the end of what Americans call the Vietnam war or Vietnam conflict.
The U.S. became a haven for many South Vietnamese refugees. Nearly 2,000 Holland-area residents trace their families back to Vietnam, for more than 25 years have gathered to remember and honor sacrifices U.S. and South Vietnamese military made during the Vietnam war.
Nghia Le, president of the Holland Vietnamese Community Association, told WHTC in 2018 April is a time to remember all those who died and went missing. He said the sacrifices of so many cannot be forgotten — nor gratitude to the U.S. for taking in so many South Vietnamese refugees.
