HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Liquor stores and marijuana dispensaries are deemed essential under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s “stay home, stay safe” executive order, but addiction recovery meetings are not.
“The worst thing a person that is in recovery can do is isolate,” said John Kruithoff.
He leads Celebrate Recovery in Holland. It’s a group that helps heal hurts, habits and hangups — the roots of addiction — at Central Wesleyan Church, where the Rev. Craig Rees is lead pastor. The church provides content to recovering people, he said, but realize that content isn’t connection.
“We have a team of people through the week who are continuing to connect with them We have done this through every single demographic,” Rees said.

Traditional 12-step meetings are also happening online or in small groups of 10 or fewer people. Learn more at Ottogan Addictions Recovery, oar-inc.org/programs-services; or Northside AA, northsideaa.org/mrc-12-step-room.html.
