HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Emergency Operations Manager Nick Bonstell is requesting donations for first responders.
“We’re going to use those to protect our responders for the next two weeks,” Bonstell said.
He said there are many different types of masks but “really for our first responsder the N59 and KN95 are the ones to find.”
While supplies have been ordered, he said, Ottawa County is competing with many other agencies to get the life-preserving equipment.
He said people may have them at home and not realize it. He’s asking people to check their workshops and cupboards for them.
He said the PPE are distributed every Friday to all Ottawa County public responder agencies.
The hand santizer, he said. has been donated in large amounts, but they need small bottles to share it in individual amounts.
Though advice from CDC officials on down to indivdual doctors suggests everyone should wear a mask in public, Bonstell says that, for most people, homemade masks can be used.
“Please leave the N95 and KN95 for first responders going on these calls and coming in close contact with people in these COVID-19 situations,” he said.
