HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland resident Marissa Hemmeke, 22, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2019, in a multi-vehicle crash in Allegan County. A 12-year-old Hamilton boy was injured, police said.
Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies, at about 2 p.m. to the intersection of 144th Ave. at 43rd St. in Overisel Township, found a passenger car with four people in it stopped at a two-way stop sign, then proceeded through the intersection, where the car collided with a pick-up truck that was hauling lumber. The pick-up was then hit by another pickup truck.
All four people in the passenger car were injured. Two, Ms. Hemmeke and the 12-year-old boy, had to be extricated. The 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl in the car suffered minor injuries, police said. All went by Fennville AMR Ambulance or Aeromed to Grand Rapids-area hospitals.
The crash remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene: firefighters from Overisel and Salem townships, as well as Michigan State Police troopers.
