Excluded from the discount: pharmacy, alcohol, tobacco, lottery, stamps, sales tax, gift cards, bottle deposits, reduced-price promotional items and other service counter items.
Participating stores include Ada Fresh Market, D&W Fresh Market, Dan’s Supermarket, Dillonvale IGA, Econofoods, Family Fare, Family Fresh Market, Forest Hills Foods, No Frills, Pick’n Save, SunMart, Supermercado Nuestra Familia, ValuLand and VG’s.
“SpartanNash is committed to serving our military heroes and their families, both at home and abroad, and this Veterans Day – and throughout the year – this is just one small way we can say ‘thank you for your service,’” said Meredith Gremel, vice president of corporate affairs and communications. “As a leading distributor of grocery products to U.S. military commissaries around the world, we are honored to show our appreciation to these men and women.”
In addition to the discount, stores will hold a moment of silence at 11 a.m. and host other in-store commemorations to honor and thank veterans.
SpartanNash proudly employs more than 750 self-identified veterans, in addition to reservists, National Guardsmen and Blue and Gold Star family members throughout the company.
SpartanNash also offers an employee resource group, SNVETS, which focuses on supporting, networking, volunteering, educating, training and serving military associates, their families and veterans in the community. In 2018, SNVETS coordinated welcome home celebrations for associates, a flag signing and care packages for deployed troops, SpartanNash Challenge coin presentations to veteran associates companywide and a holiday gift drive for veterans.
Since Veterans Day 2015, SpartanNash has been collecting old, worn, frayed and/or faded American flags at each of its retail grocery stores and companywide. Each SpartanNash location then partners with a local veterans service organization to ensure the proper retirement of the flags. Nearly 3,000 flags have been retired through the SpartanNash program.
