HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A former West Ottawa School board member, Douglas Arthur Mahn, begins five years’ probation for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13, according to state records.
Douglas Arthur Mahn, 64, made a plea agreement to a second-degree sex assault charge after a Feb. 22, 2018, incident. He resigned from the West Ottawa School Board in 2018, after he’d been a board member for nearly 15 years, including a two-year stint as board vice president and more than six years as board secretary.
In addition to registering as a sex offender as part of the felony plea agreement for which he was sentenced on Monday, May 6, 2019, he’s required by the court to keep a clean record, have no contact with anyone under the age of 17, and he must stay at least 1,000 feet away from schools, according to state records.
He can’t use the internet or leave the state without permission, and will have a electronic tether. The court order bars him from being within 500 feet of his assault survivor, and he’s not allowed to make any attempt to contact her.
He’s barred from owning weapons. He must submit to searches by authorities, pay court fees and fines, among several other penalties.
