HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Distracted driving is being blamed for a car-tree crash that injured a 35-year-old man and two young children.
It happened on Blue Oak Drive in Timberline Estates Mobile Home Community, 260 Pin Oak Drive in Coopersville, just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2019, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Christie Wendt.
The man was driving east when he reached into the back seat — and the car went off the road, hitting a tree, according to police. The two girls, an 8-month-old and 3-year-old, were in the back seat but not properly restrained.
Both went by LIFE ambulance to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver went to North Ottawa Community Hospital for minor injuries, where he was treated and released, but is now on Ottawa Conty Jail on misdemeanor charges.
