HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — Five Michigan Congress members are backing the notion of impeachment.
Democratic Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Brenda Lawrence, along with Republican Justin Amash, have already bem talking impeachment. Now MLive is reporting Democrats Dan Kildee of Flint and Andy Levin of Bloomfield Township are the latest to voice their support.
Freshmen Democrats Elissa Slotkin and Haley Stevens of suburban Detroit are more in line with Democratic speaker Nancy Pelosi and St. Joseph Republican Fred Upton. Upton said impeachment could hurt legislative efforts.
“Time is so limited, as we try to get a budget agreement, an infrastructure bill, immigration — all these other issues that consume lots of floor time. Lots of amendments. You take away from that, knowing that the election is upon us,” Upton said. “The voters will decide, in not-too-many months.”
President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are set to announce a re-election campaign today in Ohio.
Will Upton campaign for the ticket? Monday, just after the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce legislative breakfast, he told WHTC he hadn’t been asked.
