HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — Blame the wet weather and today’s prediction of thunderstorms for a two-week delay of the second-annual Los Cochinos fishing tournament, which had been set for Saturday, June 15, 2019.
Now, it’s been bumped to June 29, 2019, according to organizer Jaime Valdez.
This is a casual tournament for fishing enthusiasts or beginners from the general public Valdez says. Only requirement is for those 17 and older having a valid Michigan fishing license.
Valdez fell into organizing last year’s tournament after promoting an earlier event organized by another group.
He had help from his fishing buddies, who call themselves Los Cochinos, which Valdez says loosely translates to “little pigs,” but they use to describe how dirty they get while out fishing,
The first Los Cochinos tournament drew 70 people, of all ages. This year, Valdez anticipates between 70 and 100 participants.
Updates are online, on the Los Cochinos Facebook page. Registration is $20; the money is divided among the top fish catchers.
