OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — One person suffered minor injuries in an apartment fire at Copper Beech Townhomes, 10295 48th Ave. in Allendale on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019. Tentative investigation indicated the resident has been using a butane torch and accidentally ignited the contents of an upper-floor bedroom, according to an Ottawa County statement emailed to the media.
Police and firefighters were called to the scene just before 6:30 p.m. Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies aided Allendale Fire / Rescue and arrived to find flames and smoke visible in the building.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the apartment where it started. No adjoining apartments were damaged.
This incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and Allendale Fire / Rescue.
