OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Emergency Manager Nick Bonstell alerted media about a hazardous materials exposure at a residence in Boulder Ridge, a mobile home park in Allendale Township. Authorities were alerted at 3 p.m. Monday.
A 23-year-old man went by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth in Grand Rapids for treatment, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett.
Responders included Allendale Fire Rescue and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies; the Ottawa County Hazardous Materials Response Team; the City of Grand Rapids’ Hazardous Materials Response Team, and Life EMS.
Bonstell said the hazardous material were mitigated, had no affect on the surrounding area, and no public health risk associated with the incident at this time.
The hazardous material involved was not identified.
Bennett indicated the victim “ingested a possible toxic substance with the intent of causing harm to himself.”
Sheriff’s detectives continue investigating at this time, Bennett said.
