HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — An Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries and a Coopersville teen learned a painful lesson, after a crash Friday, Dec. 13, 2019.
The crash, as the intersection of River Street and O’Malley Drive in Coopersville, happened, the 16-year-old Coopersville boy told police later, when he pulled into the intersection while heading east on O’Malley, into the path of the deputy’s patrol car.
The deputy, identifed in the Ottawa County Sheriff’s statement to media, is identified only as a 49-year-old female, who had the right of way. She had been on routine patrol in the city, heading north on River in a fully marked vehicle. The teen told police he didn’t see the police vehicle.
The deputy went by ambulance to a Grand Rapids-area hospital for treatment of injuries to her face and one of her hands, and was last reported in good condition.
Three of the four 16-year-olds in the Cadillac suffered minor injuries, none of which required medical treatment, according to police.
This crash remains under investigation.
