WRIGHT TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An 18-year-old Coopersville man was hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash between Marne and Coopersville on Saturday evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, the unnamed man was a passenger in a sedan that was eastbound on Ironwood Drive around 6 AM. A 19-year-old Grand Haven woman driving the vehicle attempted to make the turn onto 40th avenue when, apparently going too fast for the situation, she lost control, crashing the automobile into a power pole. That pole was taken down, causing power lines to drop onto the roadway, as well as onto nearby I-96 in both directions near the 19 mile marker, closing the freeway for nearly 90 minutes.
While first responders took the injured man to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment of a knee injury, Consumers Energy crews were called upon to remove the power lines. The driver and another passenger, an 18-year-old Spring Lake woman, were not hurt.
Dill added that all three persons in the sedan were buckled up as the crash remains under investigation.
