Grand Valley State swept a basketball doubleheader from the Davenport Panthers in Caledonia on Saturday, Cassidy Boensch had 18 points with 13 rebounds as the women won the opener, 82-53. Jake Van Tubbergen’s 23-point, 12-rebound, six-assist effort helped the men take the nightcap, 79-69. The Lady Lakers face NAIA school Ave Maria in a tournament at Daytona Beach next Friday, while the men are home to the Grace Christian Tigers at the Fieldhouse Arena on Wednesday evening.

Gianna Parlove’s extra-time goal, in the 107th minute of the match, enabled Grand Valley State to capture the NCAA Division II women’s soccer title with a 1-0 triumph over Western Washington in Pittsburgh on Saturday. It’s the sixth national crown for the 25-1-0 Lakers.
