HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Impaired driving is being blamed for a two-vehicle injury and property damage crash at 48th Avenue and Pierce Street in Allendale Township that happened just before 3 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019.
Police found a 36-year-old Grand Rapids man, driving west on Pierce, disregarded a blinking red light. His vehicle hit a vehicle with a 20-year-old Allendale woman, at the wheel. She’d been southbound on 48th Avenue, and had a flashing yellow light.
The collision forced both vehicles into the southwest corner of the road, sending the Allendale woman’s car into an apartment building.
Both drivers went by ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth. The crash also injured a 22-year-old man who’d been a passenger in the Grand Rapids man’s car, but he refused medical attention, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Christie Wendt.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash, which remains under investigation.
