HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An Ottawa County Sheriff’s cruiser responding to an emergency call was involved in a two-vehicle accident on Holland’s North Side.
Sheriff’s Sergeant Brent Converse didn’t disclose the nature of the call that led to the crash in the area of 136th Avenue and James Street just after 3:30 PM on Thursday. “The deputy (had his vehicle’s) lights and siren activated when his vehicle was struck by a westbound vehicle,” Converse explained in a department statement. “The investigation showed that the (westbound) vehicle had pulled over and allowed the police vehicle to pass but then continued towards the intersection, thinking the police car was heading in a different direction. (The driver) didn’t see that it had gone around stopped vehicles and headed north, striking the police vehicle in the passenger door.”
The unnamed deputy involved suffered bumps and bruises, while the other driver, identified only as an 18-year-old Holland woman, along with an 18-year-old male passenger, also from Holland, were not hurt. Converse added that southbound traffic on 136th Avenue between Felch and James were diverted away from the scene “for investigation and cleanup.”
