HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — A couple from South Carolina were hurt in a single-car rollover crash in Zeeland Township, just after 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019.
It happened, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Traffic Sgt. Mike VanDenBosch said, when the 74-year-old male driver fell asleep at the wheel.
He’d been westbound on Chicago Drive, and the vehicle swerved into the median, then rolled over.
The man’s 75-year-old wife, a front seat passenger, was pinned in the vehicle until Zeeland firefighters were able to extricate here. The couple were alert and conscious at the scene, and take by AMR Ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids, with non-life threatening injuries.
VanDenBosch said the couple were wearing seat belts, and that alcohol and speed were not factors in this crash, which remains under investigation.
