MONTEREY TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two persons are in custody after the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department had to deploy a SWAT team to a residence between Burnips and Hopkins last night on a report of a home burglary.
According to Sheriff’s Captain Scott Matice, Central Dispatch received an alarm from the home off of 28th Street near 134th Avenue around 8:45 PM. It was later learned that the unnamed homeowner, who wasn’t at the residence at the time, had installed a surveillance/alarm system due to having numerous firearms inside.
When deputies arrived, a woman was spotted inside a vehicle parked in the garage and was taken into custody. A man who was seen inside of the residence was told to surrender, but refused to comply. The SWAT team was then sent to the site, and after a few more “verbal commands,” according to Matice, the man surrendered peacefully.
Both unnamed suspects were taken to the Allegan County Jail, where they await arraignment on home invasion charges at Allegan District Court. The case remains under investigation, and anyone with any information is asked to call the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office (269-673-0500) or Allegan Silent Observer (800-554-3633).
