HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Five West Ottawa High School students have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. That’s tied for the most of any West Michigan high school. Seniors Tyler Chau, Brooke Drost, Derek Maas, Elizabeth Snider and Anna Warsaw are eligible for one of about 7,500 National Merit Scholarships, totaling more than $31 million, that will be awarded early next year. West Ottawa tied Forest Hills Central High School in suburban Grand Rapids for the most semifinalists of any West Michigan high school. Other Holland-area semifinalists are Samuel VanderArk of Black River Public School, Tyler Vo of Holland High School, Leah Heneveld of Zeeland East High School and Nathan Wichers of Zeeland West High School.
