WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Three road projects in Ottawa County are affected by a statewide work stoppage involving unionized engineers and a consortium of building contractors.
Work has stopped on the resurfacing of James Street between US 31 and Chicago Drive on Holland’s North Side, as well as along Osborn/Bass/Warner between 68th and 104th avenues in the Allendale-Robinson township vicinity, due to the lockout of Operating Engineers Local 324 by the Michigan Infrastructure Transportation Association over a collective bargaining dispute that began after the Labor Day holiday. Also partially affected is the expansion of Cottonwood Drive between Baldwin Street and Bauer Road in Jenison.
The Ottawa County Road Commission says that it is not a party to this dispute and maintains that the contractors involved in these projects are still responsible “to keep work zones safe for the traveling public.”
There is no word as to any progress in ending this dispute between MITA and the unionized engineers that has affected a number of other road projects in Michigan.
