HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — At sunrise Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, Holland resident Nick Hobson will slip into Lake Michigan at Holland State Park for a 20-mile swim to Grand Haven State Park. He’s doing it to raise cash for The Pink Fund, a Michigan-based non-profit which provides financial support to women.
Hobson understands the struggle, having watched his mom endure and survive breast cancer — and watched his parents worry about paying the mounting medical bills.
He’s an experienced open-water swimmer but says this is the longest effort he’s attempted. He hopes to raise $5,000 for The Pink Fund. He’s already raised more than $3,600 with an online campaign.
Pink Fund founder Molly MacDonald will be on hand this morning and may evern swim a shorter distance with Hobson.
The launch party is set for 6:30 this morning at the southern edge of Holland State Park. Hobson expects to reach Grand Haven State Parks northern pavilion at about 4:30 this afternoon. People can follow his quest using an online tracker.
