HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland police detectives are investigating the report of a shooting near the corner of 19th Street and College Avenue late in the evening of Sunday Sept. 2, 2018. No injuries have been reported or discovered as of Tuesday, according to Holland Police Capt. Keith Mulder.
“Witnesses say it was a handgun pointed out of a car window at some people, and then fired up into the air,” he wrote in an email to WHTC. “The suspect fled in a car, and the suspect was not located, however has been identified. No injuries, no damage, no links to other crimes at this point.”
Hope College officials messaged students, including via Twitter, to a shelter in place Sunday evening, until just before 11 p.m.
The first message from Hope’s official Twitter account, sent at 9:45 p.m. read, “HOPE ALERT: A suspect in a violent crime is presumed to be near campus. Take shelter until an all clear is given.”
The second, sent at 10:48 p.m. read, “HOPE ALERT: Shelter-in-place is now lifted but please continue using caution tonight. Assault involving non-students & a weapon occurred at 16th [sic] & College. Shelter alert was precautionary while we learned more details. Suspect has not yet been apprehended.”
The incident remains under investigation.
