OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s detectives are looking for tips after a rash of cellphone store thefts, the most recently on Tuesday evening, Oct. 16, 2018, according to Capt. Mark Bennett.
Video surveillance spotted a group of three suspects enter a store just after 7 p.m. Tuesday, when the stop was still open, taken phones from display shelves after snipping the security cords, Bennett said
The spree appears to have started on Oct. 10, 2018, Bennett said, at the Cellular Connection on Cottonwood Drive in Georgetown Township; Oct. 13 thefts from a Verizon shop on Lake Michigan Drive in Allendale; and Oct. 15, from the AT&T store on Westshore Drive in Holland Township.
Last night, three people enterd the Sprint store on Baldwin Road in Georgetown Township just after 7 p.m., removed several phones from display cases and fled on foot, Bennett said.
Sheriff’s deputies using a K9 were unable to find the trio.
Ottawa County detectives are working with other jurisdictions “to see if these crimes are connected to similar incidents outside Ottawa County,” Bennett said.
