OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 39-year-old Holland Township man is headed for Ottawa County Jail and arraignment on multiple charges after a traffic crash and police chase Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. John Wolffis.
Police were called to a rollover crash at 120th Avenue and Fillmore Street in Olive Township just after 9 a.m. Friday. Witnesses told deputies the driver left the car and ran into the woods, just east of 120th Avenue.
On investigation, police found the vehicle had been stolen late Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018.
Police were then alerted to a second stolen vehicle, taken from an open garage.
The second stolen vehicle had OnStar tracking and the company helped police locate the vehicle on Chicago Drive in Zeeland Township and a chase ensued, south on 48th Avenue. Near the intersection with Perry Street, the suspect stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, this time into a field.
Police quickly found him and at this point, he had a stolen firearm, but was taken into custody without incident, Wolfis said. The suspect is hospitalized for injuries suffered in the rollover crash and will be arraigned when he’s recovered enough to leave the hospital for jail. He remains unidentified until after arraignment on multiple charges, Wolffis said.
