OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County is testing the first-ever robotic court greeter.
The Court-Operated Robotic Assistant — CORA, for short — appeared this week appeared at the 20th Circuit and the 58th District Courts in Grand Haven.
Until Friday, CORA will direct visitors around the courthouse, allow customers to search the court dockets, answer frequently asked questions, and provide information about the judges and referees in both English and Spanish.
As a bonus, CORA can dance a little or take a selfie.
CORA is also named for Ottawa County’s first female Probate Court judge, Hon. Cora VandeWater, on the bench from January 1, 1933 – December 31, 1948. Court employees voted for the name.
The Courts worked with Advanced Robot Solutions for CORA’s test run this week.
Advanced Robot Solutions has provided robots in airports, hospitals, and trade shows, but CORA is the first designed and placed in a court setting.
