EAST LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It was an ignominious end to the best boys basketball season in West Ottawa High School history.
The state’s Mr. Basketball, Foster Loyer, playing in his future collegiate home at the Breslin Center, lit up the Panthers for 40 points on 14-for-19 shooting from the floor, as he led the 26-1 Clarkston Wolves to their second straight Class A title in a 81-38 rout of WOHS on Saturday afternoon. This performance comes on the heels of his 42-point outing in Friday’s semifinal victory over Warren DeLaSalle.
Xavier Wade had 13 points and Liam Cavanaugh added 10 for West Ottawa (25-3), who also lost to visiting Clarkston in a state Division I football regional finall last November, 29-22. It was the first time a Lakeshore team reached a state boys’ basketball tournament game since Zeeland East fell to Flint Powers Catholic in the 2009 Class B final; the boys state title drought since Hamilton’s 1984 Class C crown continues for the Lakeshore.
