HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A byproduct of the Holland Energy Park should be seen by energy customers of the Holland Board of Public Works.
The board of the municipal utility yesterday approved the budget and rate adjustments for Fiscal 2019 that would include an average 5.7 percent cut in electric rates for all customer classes. This is due to the complete shift to the new natural gas-powered facility last fall from the coal-fired DeYoung Power Plant, which BPW General Manager Dave Koster said in a statement is twice as efficient while cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half.
However, BPW water rates will go up nearly two percent and wastewater rates 3.6 percent in what utility officials say is due to necessary infrastructure improvement and replacement.
The Holland City Council must sign off on the BPW budget and rate plans in May before they take effect in July, but that is considered to be a formality.
