EAST LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A senior at West Ottawa High School has earned a statewide honor.
Danny deForest was named by the Michigan High School Athletic Association on Tuesday as one of its 32 Scholar-Athlete Award recipients. Picked from over a thousand submissions, deForest was chosen for his achievements in varsity basketball and soccer, as well as for his academics, with a four-point-oh grade point average, his community involvement, and his submitted essay on the value of sportsmanship to him. He is also a member of the MHSAA Student Advisory Council, although the association said that this was not a deciding factor in awarding a one thousand-dollar college scholarship. deForest, who has yet to finalize his collegiate plans, will be honored during the state boys’ basketball finals at the Breslin Center in East Lansing on March 24th.
Holland’s Yzrael Silguero and Saugatuck’s Melody Antel were also among the 120 finalists for this annual award.
