HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland Museaum officials are puzzled — and seeking answers — about a pair of antique baby shoes dropped off to a museum visitor.
The museum’s executive director, Ricki Levine, says it’s not unusual for people to drop off vintage items at the musuem but, without a back story, they can’t share them with visitors.
Levine said a committee reviews all donations and sometimes has to reject them because they’re from other towns, such as Grand Rapids or Grand Haven — and she encourages donors to share items with museums more-relevant to the items.
In some cases, she said, items are duplicates, and — with the donor’s permission — are used as part of the educational outreach program, allowing the museum’s youngest visitors to touch the items and feel more connected to history.
Anyone with information the the tiny brown leather shoes, which Levine guesses may be from the late 1880s, is asked to cotnact museum officials by calling (616) 796-2080 or visit the musuem at 31 W. 10th St. in Holland.
