GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 63-year-old Coopersville man with two past convictions for drunken driving, and allegedly driving not only under the influence but apparently illegally, is in the Ottawa Couny Jail, charged with the deaths of a Marne couple.
Bruce Ross was arraigned on Monday via video link and ordered held on 50 thousand dollars bond by Judge Judy Mulder in her Hudsonville District Courtroom. He faces two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, two counts of operating a vehicle with a suspended license causing death, and other related charges.
Ross was briefly hospitalized before being jailed following the Sunday night incident in which his SUV was struck by a motorized trike at the intersection of Cleveland Street and 40th Avenue, east of Coopersville. The trike’s passengers, 72-year-old Larry Hein and his 67-year-old wife Joyce, died from their injuries at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital.
A preliminary hearing date for Ross wasn’t immediately determined.
