WRIGHT TWP. (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 63-year-old Coopersville man is in Ottawa County Jail awaiting charges after a Jeep-motorcycle crash that killed two Marne residents, Larry Hein, 72, and Joyce Hein, 67.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jay Douglas said the Heins were on a 2010 Harley Davidson trike, with Larry driving, when the motorcycle struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee at the intersection of Cleveland Street and 40th Avenue, just before 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018.
The couple, who were both wearing helmets, were thrown from the motorcycle and critically injured, Douglas said. Both were treated at the scene and rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital, then airlifted to Spectrum in Grand Rapids, where they were later declared dead.
The Jeep driver was taken into custody at the scene, Douglas said, and “alcohol use was a factor” in the crash.
