GRANDVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A former principal at Grandville High school has died.
Chris VanderSlice lost his four year battle to leukemia on Saturday. VanderSlice had stepped down from his duties in 2014 after his diagnosis. Last year the school district brought him back as a coordinator of secondary curriculum and measurement.
Current Principal John Philo said VanderSlice was one of his best friends.
“He was intense. He was very intense in a great way. Everything he did he did “full on.” The same is true for education. If there was something that a student needed he was “full on.”
Grief counselors will be available for students and staff today and funeral arrangements are pending. Grandville schools have shared more memories of VanderSlice on their Facebook page. Here is a link to an article on the school’s website.
He is survived by his wife Tonya, daughters Hannah and Liz, two sisters and his parents.
