HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Holland High’s Marching Band has earned themselves a new Division 1 rating.
At the 2017 Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association competition, held in the stadium at Zeeland Stadium, Holland High School showed their stuff after a five year absence from the competition.
Demetrius White is the Director of HHS Bands and says it’s an exciting time for both the kids, himself and the community. There is always room for improvement he says.
“We’re actually right now reviewing tapes and audio just like a football team or basketball team would do. Regardless if we got a 1 or 2. Again continuing to strive to do the best that we can is the name of the game. Always trying to improve and better ourselves, as a family.”
White was hired in 2015 as the Director of Bands for the Holland High School Band Program. The Lansing native received a degree in Music Education from Michigan State University. During his time at MSU, White was a member of multiple music groups, including the Spartan Marching Band.
Their half time show this year is titled “Michael Jackson-The King of Pop.” which they will perform at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium at Hope College Friday night, October 13.
