Hope College catcher Trace Slancik has been selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Baseball Position Player of the Week.
The junior from Scotts, Michigan (Vicksburg HS) is receiving the honor for the first time in his career.
Slancik batted .543 over eight games last week as the Flying Dutchmen played four doubleheaders in five days. He played all 64 innings behind the plate.
Offensively, Slancik recorded 19 hits in 35 at-bats, including four doubles and one home run. He had at least one hit in every game and at least two hits in seven games.
Slancik also scored eight runs and collected seven runs batted in.
Defensively, Slancik threw out four base runners.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Hope College attacher Max Kuiper has been chosen as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week.
The junior from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS) is claiming the award for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career.
Kuiper totaled six goals and six assists last week to help the Flying Dutchmen record two victories that earned them their second outright MIAA regular-season championship in a row.
During a 9-8 overtime victory against Albion College, Kuiper finished with three goals and one assist.
Kuiper matched his career-high with five assists during a 21-10 victory against Kalamazoo College on Saturday. He also scored one goal.
Kuiper has 34 goals and a career-high 31 assists this season.
