HOLLAND, MI (92 7 WHTC, Nov. 7, 2026) – An exercise in American government was taken with Tuesday’s General Election. Learning how American government works is behind another exercise slated for Monday evening in Holland.
From 6-8 PM, members of the city’s Human Relations Commission’s Education Committee, in collaboration with the Michigan Municipal League, will conduct an “Essentials of Local Government” seminar at Herrick District Library. MML General Counsel Christopher Johnson will lead the discussion into an overview of municipal government basics, rules and responsibilities of advisory boards and commissions, and about both of the state’s Open Meetings and Freedom of Information acts.
Holland City Manager Keith Van Beek said that this that is a good way to learn about parliamentary procedures.
The Essentials of Local Government seminar is free and open to the entire Lakeshore community, with light refreshments provided, but advance registration is desired through this link.
